{"id":781620,"date":"2025-10-02T10:47:56","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T07:47:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/?p=781620"},"modified":"2025-10-02T12:27:57","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T09:27:57","slug":"mps-approve-kenya-pipeline-privatization-plan-seeking-to-raise-sh100bn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/2025\/10\/mps-approve-kenya-pipeline-privatization-plan-seeking-to-raise-sh100bn\/","title":{"rendered":"MPs approve Kenya Pipeline privatization plan seeking to raise Sh100bn"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 2 \u2013 The Nartional Assembly has approved the government\u2019s plan to privatize the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) paving the way for the government to divest 65 per cent of its shareholding to private investors.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move came after Cabinet approved the partial privatization in July, framing it as a shift toward \u201cdemocratizing ownership\u201d and unlocking the firm\u2019s full commercial potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to government projections, the divestment is expected to raise about Sh100 billion to help address budget shortfalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The approval, contained in Sessional Paper No. 2 of 2025, will see the government retain a 35 per cent shareholding in the company, while the bulk is offered through a public listing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has previously defended the plan, arguing that it could quadruple state revenues from KPC while attracting professional management and strengthening governance standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlthough it is profit\u2011making, the government gets just about Sh3\u202fbillion or Sh4\u202fbillion annually as dividends.
