{"id":745447,"date":"2024-04-10T12:54:02","date_gmt":"2024-04-10T09:54:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/?p=745447"},"modified":"2024-04-10T12:56:02","modified_gmt":"2024-04-10T09:56:02","slug":"epra-reports-rise-in-energy-consumption-linked-to-e-mobility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/2024\/04\/epra-reports-rise-in-energy-consumption-linked-to-e-mobility\/","title":{"rendered":"EPRA reports rise in energy consumption linked to e-mobility"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 10 &#8212; Energy consumption in electric mobility has surged in the past year signaling increased adoption of electric mobility options in the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) reported a rise in energy consumption from 29,097 kWh in July 2023, to 75,729 kWh in December 2023 in a report released on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNotably during the reviewed period, energy consumption by the electric mobility consumer category surged by 160 per cent,\u201d the authority stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, given the high presence of renewable energy, EPRA is assertive that the country&#8217;s capability to support e-infrastructure is not in doubt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe country\u2019s energy mix is highly conducive to supporting e-mobility, with almost 85 per cent of energy generation sourced from renewable channels,\u201d EPRA stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rise in electric mobility adoption in the country signifies a gain in momentum for the government\u2019s campaign to decarbonize the transport system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The transition to cleaner mobility is a strategic move aimed at reducing carbon emissions and fighting climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of 2023, the number of electric motor vehicles on Kenyan roads had risen to 2,694 signifying the growing interest in electric mobility in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs of December 2023, EVs constituted 1.62 per cent of vehicles registered that year, with the country aiming to reach 5 per cent by 2025, as outlined in the Kenya National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy 2020,\u201d EPRA stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen unveiled special green coloured number plates for electric vehicles on March 27 as part of the government&#8217;s effort to propel the adoption of e-mobility in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSpecial plates will help raise awareness about EVs among the general public and encourage more people to consider switching to e-mobility,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) reported a rise in energy consumption from 29,097 kWh in July 2023, to 75,729 kWh in December 2023 in a report released on Tuesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":14479,"featured_media":745449,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4620,4625,26],"tags":[20194,20196,20195,1981],"coauthors":[18669],"class_list":["post-745447","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-driving-electric","category-national-news","category-top-stories","tag-e-mobility","tag-electric-driving","tag-energy-consumption","tag-featured"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v25.7.1 (Yoast SEO v27.5) -
