{"id":743886,"date":"2024-03-13T11:56:40","date_gmt":"2024-03-13T08:56:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/?p=743886"},"modified":"2024-03-13T12:43:13","modified_gmt":"2024-03-13T09:43:13","slug":"kisii-dg-pleads-not-guilty-to-gross-misconduct-abuse-of-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/2024\/03\/kisii-dg-pleads-not-guilty-to-gross-misconduct-abuse-of-office\/","title":{"rendered":"Kisii DG pleads not guilty to gross misconduct, abuse of office"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 13 &#8211; Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda has pleaded not guilty to gross misconduct during the Senate impeachment hearing currently underway.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The charges which were read to him also include gross violation of the constitution, crimes under national law and abuse of office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy virtue of the Deputy governor requesting and receiving a bribe of sh800,00 he is in breach of the provisions of article 232 which obligates public officers to observe the values and principles of public service, &#8221; the charges read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kisii County Assembly accused the deputy governor of soliciting a bribe of Sh800, 000 from local to help him secure a job for his son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monda has been further accused of continuously diverting county enforcement officers from their course of duty to work in his firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kisii County Assembly is currently presenting their case on the floor of the House.<br>Subsequently, the Kisii Deputy Governor will be granted the chance to respond and offer a defense before Senators proceed to vote on whether to uphold the impeachment charges or reject them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hearing comes after the House resolved to alter its meeting schedule for Wednesday and Thursday, which will mark the final day for the Senate to vote on whether to support or oppose Monda\u2019s impeachment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Deputy Governor was impeached on February 29, 2024, by members of the Kisii County Assembly amid accusations of abuse of office and bribery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senators will subsequently convene for both morning and afternoon sessions today and tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMorning sitting will commence at 9.00 am to 1.00 pm and the afternoon sittings will start at 2.30 pm until the conclusion of business listed on the order paper of the day,\u201d Cheruiyot said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The House chose to settle the impeachment investigation in a plenary session after their attempt on March 7, 2024, to establish a special committee for the inquiry fell through due to lack of support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monda\u2019s hearing is likely to become politically charged, setting the stage for clashes between lawmakers from the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio coalitions in the House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monda is aligned with the Azimio coalition, having been elected on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket along with Governor Simba Arati.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The charges which were read to him also include gross violation of the constitution, crimes under national law and abuse of office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":14288,"featured_media":743888,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4625,26],"tags":[1981,491],"coauthors":[2156],"class_list":["post-743886","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-national-news","category-top-stories","tag-featured","tag-kenya"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v25.7.1 (Yoast SEO v25.7) -
