NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 22- Kenya Urban Roads Authority has cleared the air on allegations that sh 2.7 billion Road Maintenance Levy Funds was lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
KURA’s response comes following recent revelations by the Auditor General’s report that Kura couldn’t account for Ksh.2.7 Billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a press release, the agency has clarified that the report by the Auditor General did not cite any misappropriation of funds as all the RMLF funds were fully accounted for both in the Consolidated Financial statements and the RMLF financial statements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Following the audit, the Auditor General issued a qualified audit opinion on the RMLF financial statements citing lack of a separate bank account as the basis of qualification. However, the report did not cite any misappropriation of funds as all the RMLF funds were fully accounted for both in the consolidated financial statements and the RMLF Financial statements,”The statement reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We note with Concern that this information is not factual and has been taken out of context,”part of the statement adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agency has further stated that the Auditor General undertook an audit of the road maintenance Levy Fund, for the year ended June 30th 2021 comprising the revenues and expenditure as well as assets and liabilities of the fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Road Maintenance Levy Fund is a subset of the Authority\u2019s Consolidated Financial statements as the authority manages other funds from various other sources including exchequer and development partners, “the report reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gathungu in a report regretted that Kura did not have a separate account for this money as the funds were banked in the Authority\u2019s main bank account.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
