Nairobi, Kenya, Apr 27 – Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka says he is proud to have served under former President the late Mwai Kibaki as his Vice President during the grand coalition government between 2008-13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Musyoka stated that despite the tension that was there between him and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on who was to be the designate leader of government business, he always played his part as a gentleman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cKibaki must have been the happiest man; he would look at Raila and me fighting on who was closer to him. Times however do change and that issue resolved itself and I decided for the sake of good order in the country to play the gentleman,\u201d he said during an interview on KTN News on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the coalition government that was founded following the 2007-08 post-election violence, Kalonzo and Raila were always at loggerheads on who was the actual leader of government business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the disputed election that saw Kibaki declared the winner, Raila came in second while Kalonzo came in third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kalonzo added that he is proud to have played a role in ending the post election violence that plunged the nation into chaos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He revealed that he never sought the Vice Presidency noting that aides from his camp triggered talks with those in the Kibaki side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPeople were approaching each other and particularly because the country was burning and there was need to stop the bloodletting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his capacity, Kalonzo noted that he did his best to serve the country and ensure that President Kibaki achieves his mandate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am very proud that somehow through that connection with Kibaki it was my responsibility as his principal assistant to help him with everything at my disposal not much in resources but mental resources and others that God has given us to stabilize the nation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
