{"id":555534,"date":"2020-03-24T12:40:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-24T09:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/?p=555534"},"modified":"2020-03-24T15:42:44","modified_gmt":"2020-03-24T12:42:44","slug":"court-officials-ordered-to-work-from-home-as-judiciary-evaluates-covid-19-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/2020\/03\/court-officials-ordered-to-work-from-home-as-judiciary-evaluates-covid-19-risk\/","title":{"rendered":"Court officials ordered to work from home as Judiciary evaluates COVID-19 risk"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 24 \u2013 Employees of the Judiciary were Tuesday directed to work from their respective homes until further advised, in measures to combat the spread of coronavirus. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judiciary Chief Registrar Anne Amadi, in a memo dispatched to the staff of the third arm of government dated Monday, March 23, said all work-related matters will be processed virtually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The memo copied to the Supreme\nCourt, Appeals Court, The High Court and Officers advised heads of departments\nto embrace case management through technology under the circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amadi said the decision followed concerns\nraised regarding safety of the staff as they attend to members of the public. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consequently, all head of\nstations were directed to facilitate the filing of urgent matters through\nelectronic means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon filing, the matters will be\nforwarded to Judges and Magistrate\u2019s for uploading on Judiciary&#8217;s website \u2013 www.judiciary.go.ke<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Litigants are required to indicate\ntheir mobile telephone numbers and email addresses through which they will\nreceive directions which Amadi said will be prompt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chief Justice David Maraga had on\nMarch 15 suspended all civil and criminal proceedings until March 30. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He had however exempted urgent\nmatters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the CJ\u2019s directive, Malindi Law Courts held a virtual\nsession Monday, via a Skype video conferencing facility to expedite the\ndetermination of matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chief Magistrate Dr Julie Aseko\npresided over the proceedings in an exercise conducted in conjunction with\nMalindi GK prisons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The session saw 157 matters handled by\nthe court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Taita Taveta, Voi High\nCourt Presiding Judge Farah Amin processed 24 files from Wundanyi Magistrate\u2019s\nCourt and issued orders for the release of 23 petty offenders from Wundanyi GK\nPrison, as part of efforts to decongest prison facilities and prevent the\nspread of COVID-19. &nbsp;<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 24 \u2013 Employees of the Judiciary were Tuesday directed to work from their respective homes until further advised, in measures to combat the spread of coronavirus.
