{"id":501246,"date":"2019-07-01T18:30:49","date_gmt":"2019-07-01T15:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/?p=501246"},"modified":"2019-07-01T18:33:48","modified_gmt":"2019-07-01T15:33:48","slug":"kenya-offers-s-sudan-land-in-naivasha-for-a-dry-port","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/2019\/07\/kenya-offers-s-sudan-land-in-naivasha-for-a-dry-port\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya offers S.Sudan land in Naivasha for a dry port"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_501252\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/files\/2019\/07\/KENYATTA-KIIR-STATE-HOUSE.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-501252\" src=\"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/files\/2019\/07\/KENYATTA-KIIR-STATE-HOUSE.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"630\" height=\"350\" class=\"size-full wp-image-501252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/files\/2019\/07\/KENYATTA-KIIR-STATE-HOUSE.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/files\/2019\/07\/KENYATTA-KIIR-STATE-HOUSE-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-501252\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Further, the two countries have agreed to set up a joint border commission for the management of the common border between the two East African nations\/PSCU<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 1-Kenya will set aside a 10 \u2013 acre parcel of land for South Sudan\u2019s dry port at the Inland Container Depot in Naivasha, in what President Uhuru Kenyatta said will ease the movement of goods to Juba.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement was made by President Kenyatta on Monday when he hosted the country&#8217;s leader Salva Kiir who is in the country for a two-day state visit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Kenya government has responded to the request of South Sudan to set aside 10 acres of land at the Inland Container Depot in Naivasha industrial park, to ease the movement of goods destined to South Sudan,\u201d said President Kenyatta.<\/p>\n<p>A similar undertaking was also made to Uganda in March this year, when Kenya offered the country land to build a dry port for its cargo as part of the joint Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>President Kenyatta also announced that Kenya will hold a trade expo in South Sudan in November this year, as part of measures aimed at restoring confidence that South Sudan is open for business.<\/p>\n<p>The President said the proposal is in line with the prevailing peace and stability following the signing of the revitalized agreement on the resolution of conflict in the country that was signed in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe expo, we believe, will reignite our trade and commerce cooperation and send a very powerful signal that indeed South Sudan is open for business, there exists a huge trade potential between our two countries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kenyatta further reaffirmed his commitment in supporting South Sudan\u2019s peace efforts.<\/p>\n<p>The issue of peace in South Sudan has been a major concern to President Kenyatta, who has been at the forefront in attempts to finding a lasting solution to the instability in the East African country.<\/p>\n<p>On his part, Kiir said that Kenya remains a key partner in the economic development, and that they will continue engaging on development and political issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe visit has been a great opportunity that enabled us to explore comprehensive bilateral cooperation and take a step of concrete measures that will enhance bilateral relations in different fields, and going forward South Sudan and Kenya shall be exchanging views from time to time on issues of mutual interest,&#8221; he said, &#8220;South Sudan remains grateful to the government of Kenya.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 1-Kenya will set aside a 10 \u2013 acre parcel of land for South Sudan\u2019s dry port at the Inland Container Depot in Naivasha, in what President Uhuru Kenyatta said will ease the movement of goods to Juba.
