Other components of the contract include lighting and a footbridge at the KWS gate. The construction is expected to take 15 months,&#8217; said KURA Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, John Cheboi in a statement.  <\/p>\n<p>He said this is part of the bigger expansion program envisaged to open up the southern part of the city and spur growth in suburbs like Ongata Rongai and the environs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The construction will eventually link up with the construction and expansion of Bomas &#8211; Karen road as well as Adams Arcade &#8211; Ngong Road,&#8221; Mr Cheboi said. <\/p>\n<p>The other phase will be the expansion from All Saints Cathedral to Adams Arcade whose funding negotiations are underway.  <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, President Mwai Kibaki has appointed Prof Johnstone Kiamba as the Non-Executive Chairman of KURA for a period of three years. <\/p>\n<p>In a gazette notice, the President under the powers given by the Roads Act 2007, appointed Prof Kiamba who has been a Director at KURA for the last three years as the New Non-executive Chairman replacing Prof Eng. Sixtus Mwea whose term ended in November, 2010. <\/p>\n<p>Prof Kiamba is a full time consultant on Regional Development and Environmental Planning and a Lawyer by profession. He holds a Doctorate Degree in Planning from Nottingham University, and a Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning from University of Nairobi. <\/p>\n<p>He has previously held various positions with over 20 years experience in planning of various settlements in and outside Kenya. <\/p>\n<p>Prof Kiamba has been the chairman of Kenya Institute of Planners since 2007 and a member of Law Society of Kenya, Commonwealth Association of Lawyers among others Associations. <\/p>\n<p>KURA says Prof Kiamba brings on board vast experience necessary to steer the parastatal whose mandate is to manage, develop, rehabilitate and maintain all public roads in the city and municipalities in Kenya for the realization of Vision 2030.<\/p>\n<p>The appointment comes at a time when KURA has taken over the entire Urban Road network in the country with over1, 282 Kilometers of road rehabilitated plus 70 kilometers of new road construction completed. <\/p>\n<p>Major projects coming to fruition include; the Eastern and Northern bypasses, expansion of Ngong Road, Oginga Odinga Road in Nakuru and the construction of major missing links in Nairobi amongst others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 26 &#8211; The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has advertised the construction of a dual carriageway extension from Kenya Wildlife Service Headquarters to the Bomas of Kenya Junction in Langata.
