NAIROBI, July 7 – World Junior 800 metres record holder Pamela Jelimo will resume her quest for a share of the $1 million IAAF Golden League Jackpot at the ‘28th Golden Gala in Rome on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The teenage sensation is one of five Golden League Jackpot contenders still in the race for the season long quest.
She announced her arrival on the big stage when she won the African 800 metres crown in Addis Ababa in 1:58.70. She then ran an area record and a World Junior record of 1:54.99 in Berlin before slowing slightly to 1:55.41 in Oslo.<\/p>\n

Jelimo underlined her great form by running the fastest time ever recorded on Kenyan soil during the national trails. She clocked 1:57.71 to erase the time set by World Champion Janeth Jepkosgei last year of 1:58.00. <\/p>\n

Other contenders in the jackpot include 400m Hurdler Bershawn Jackson of the United Sates who ran 48.73sec in Berlin; 48.15 season’s best in Oslo and won the US Olympic Trials on 29 June in 48.17. <\/p>\n

Kazakhs’ Hussein Al-Sabee is also still in contention in long jump having won in Berlin, 8.19 in Oslo and a season’s best of 8.31 in Riyadh on April 16.<\/p>\n

Josephine Onyia of Spain is also fighting for a share of the jackpot after setting a national record as she won in Berlin and repeated her feat in clocking 12.59 in Oslo with Blanka Vlasic also in the race.<\/p>\n

After Rome, action will move to Paris on July 18 before taking a break to allow athletes compete at the Olympics. The athletes will then line up at Wetklasse meet in Zurich before finishing off at the Van Damme memorial meet in Brussels. <\/p>\n

To win a share of the jackpot, Athletes are required to win at all six meetings in Berlin, Oslo, Rome, Paris, Zurich and Brussels. <\/p>\n

There are ten event disciplines designated to the Jackpot, six events for men and four for women, including men’s 100m, 400m, 1500m, 400m Hurdles, Long Jump, Javelin Throw and women’s 200m, 800m, 100m Hurdles and High Jump.<\/p>\n

Should no athlete manage to attain six wins and claim the $1 million, then anyone with five victories will share half the original prize – $500,000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
