NAIROBI, Kenya May 17 – The East Africa Superwoman Awards 2026 brought together influential women leaders from across the region to celebrate excellence, resilience, and transformative leadership under the theme “Breaking the Glass Ceiling and Leading Ahead.”
The event recognized outstanding women who continue to challenge barriers, inspire change, and drive progress in different sectors while empowering future generations of women and girls.
Leaders drawn from government, business, education, civil society, and community organizations used the platform to highlight the growing impact of women in leadership, innovation, mentorship, and social transformation.
Among those honoured during the ceremony was Immigration Director General Evelyn Cheluget, who was named Champion in Public Sector Leadership in East Africa of the Year 2026.
Cheluget dedicated the award to officers and staff within the Immigration Department, saying the recognition reflected the collective efforts and commitment of the entire institution in delivering quality public service.
She praised immigration officers for their professionalism, patriotism, resilience, and dedication in safeguarding national security, managing borders, and ensuring efficient movement and service delivery across the country.
The Director General said the recognition should inspire more women to pursue leadership positions, overcome obstacles, and create opportunities for others to succeed.
“This award is not just about individual achievement but about the collective effort and dedication of all officers who continue to serve the country diligently,” she said.
Speakers at the forum emphasized the need to empower more women to take up leadership positions across various sectors, noting that breaking the glass ceiling requires determination, courage, consistency, and strong support systems.
Education and mentorship emerged as major themes during the discussions, with participants calling for increased investment in girls’ education and leadership development programs to prepare young women for future opportunities.
The event also celebrated the role of women in business and entrepreneurship, with speakers applauding female professionals and entrepreneurs for contributing to economic growth, job creation, and innovation despite challenges in the corporate world.
