KURIA EAST, Migori County, Jan 27 – Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, the spouse of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, dedicated her time on Friday to engage with inmates at the lesser-known Kendege GK Prison, situated on the Kenya-Tanzania border in Kuria East, Migori County.
In an ongoing campaign aimed at uplifting and motivating the male population, Pastor Dorcas urged the 150 incarcerated individuals to embark on a journey of personal transformation and become responsible members of society upon their release. The prison, which currently houses 150 inmates serving sentences ranging from one month to five years, became the latest stop in Pastor Dorcas’s mission to inspire positive change among male prisoners.
“Regardless of your past actions, you all have a second chance at life. It starts with resetting your mindset. While here in prison, seize the opportunity to acquire new skills because, as a man thinks, so he becomes. Your thoughts will determine whether you succeed or fail,” emphasized Pastor Dorcas.
She continued, “When you reenter society through these gates, I implore you to be better individuals, making positive contributions to our communities.”
Pastor Rigathi’s prison visits have become a hallmark of her “boychild” campaign, with previous stops at Kiambu Prison in Kiambu County, Rumuruti Prison in Laikipia County, Chuka GK Prison in Tharaka Nithi County, and King’ong’o Prison in Nyeri County, where she was joined by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, among others.
In addition to her motivational talks, Pastor Dorcas led the inmates in a tree planting exercise, aligning with the presidential directive to plant 15 billion trees by 2032. The Deputy President’s office has taken charge of the Kehancha area in Migori County, aiming to plant 2 million trees annually as part of this initiative.
Dr. Agnes Ochillo, the First Lady of Migori County, who accompanied Pastor Dorcas, challenged the inmates not to return to their communities unchanged but instead encouraged them to acquire valuable skills during their time in prison.
The inmates also had an opportunity to share their personal stories behind bars, expressing their commitment to rehabilitation and reform.
Notable attendees at the event included Kitayama Marwa, the Member of Parliament for Kuria East, and regional prison officials from the Nyanza region. Pastor Dorcas Rigathi’s prison visits continue to serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for incarcerated individuals, offering them a chance to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to society upon their release.
