Arati tells contractors ‘no work no pay,’ as he inspects county roads

KISII, Kenya, Jun 2 – Governor Simba Arati is set to conduct a two day tour inspection of constructed roads by the county government before paying the contractors.

The governor said he will visit roads under construction to ensure they are in good condition and up to standard, this is when the contractors will receive their dues.

“We will not tolerate this business of contractors doing shoddy jobs, leaving our roads in pathetic conditions then come to my office demanding for payments,” he stated.

He noted he will keep an eye to ensure all the roads under construction are up to standard by working closely with the county engineer and supervisors and the county minister in charge of roads.

Arati said a number of contractors in the last regime colluded with government officials did shoddy work,no work at all but got paid.

“We aren’t going back to where we were as a county,no work no pay,we have no money to give out for free, you must work,”the governor told the contractors.

The governor some contractors to redo the roads, for instance while making inspection in Kitutu North he told the contractor to build culverts and put up standard tranches before demanding for his dues.

In South Mugirango constituency he told the contractor to build standard gabions in a bridge he is constructing in river to connect to the main roads.

Arati made several stops in all the sub counties and addressed the residents matters development and asked them to support the county government for service delivery.

“When you see a project in your village, support it, like these roads we are constructing, ensure those contractors complete projects,” he said.

Residents in South Mugirango applauded the governor for ensuring service delivery is felt at the grass root level.

In Moticho ward where he launched a county road, residents thanked the governor and said the road will be of help in access to many other services including hospitals including hospitals and markets.

“With the ongoing short rains,we find it difficult to access market place to sell our products because of the impassable road connecting our village to Nyamarambe,”said Mary Moraa a resident.

The governor is completing his tour in Bobasi,Bomachog goe Chache, Bomachoge Borabu and Nyaribari Masaba constituencies
