NAIROBI, Kenya, May 31 — Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has ordered the transfer of all police officers stationed in Isebania, following an attack on the local police station in which five civilians were fatally injured and scores injured.
The CS made the announcement Wednesday morning when visited Isebania town, Migori County saying the move is aimed at facilitating in-depth and conclusive investigations into the incident.
All officers attached to Immigration and other government agencies namely the Kenya Bureau of Standards, Kenya Revenue Authority and Anti-Counterfeit Authority serving at Isebania border have also been transferred effective immediately.
Kindiki warned that the government will not tolerate incompetent officers.
“Any officer who through collusion and corruption allows contraband or counterfeit goods to get into the country will not be transferred to another station but interdicted and prosecuted,” he said.
He called on Kenyans to resolve all grievances peaceably, not matter how aggrieved one is.
“I appeal to all Kenyans to desist from taking the law into their own hands, retaliation and destruction of property in pursuit of justice,” he added.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority has already probing the incident, pledging to take appropriate action including recommending to the Director of Public Prosecutions the prosecution of any person found culpable.
Kindiki further affirmed that he will not allow lawlessness and disorder to thrive in any part of the country.
Commenting on the transfer of police officers, Kindiki stated that going forward, no police officer will serve in one station for more than three years.
Kindiki was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja in a visit that saw him meeti with the Nyanza region and Migori County security and intelligence teams, led by Nyanza regional coordinator Florah Mworoa.
