NAIROBI, Kenya Apr 12 – The State Department for Lands and Physical Planning today held consultative talks with lawyers, surveyors and bankers where they agreed to work together to resolve challenges faced when using the online land management system, Ardhisasa.
The meeting chaired by Lands, Public Work, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Zachariah Njeru and Lands PS Generali Nixon Korir resolved to form a technical team that will meet on a weekly basis to audit the system.
The meeting held at the Geospatial Data Center in Ruaraka, Nairobi, was attended by the President of the Law Society of Kenya Eric Theuri, President of the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya Abraham Samoei, Kenya Bankers Association Legal Director Raimond Molenje and the Chairman of the Association of Licensed Land Surveyors of Kenya Abdulkadir Adan Khalif as well the senior staff of the Department.
At the consultative meeting it was resolved that LSK, ISK, ALLSK and KBA will nominate representatives to be part of a taskforce that will meet on a weekly basis to resolve the teething problems experienced during the implementation of the Ardhisasa system.
The CS said the Ministry will continue involving stakeholders and users of the system in improving its stability.
“I wish this type of meeting was held in the past because some of the problems we are dealing with would have been solved earlier,” said the CS.
PS Korir said some of the challenges were the result of lack proper coordination and lack of stakeholder involvement in the past before the rollout of the system in 2021.
“Each organization will nominate two people to the technical team and this team will meet on a weekly basis and then we will hold a monthly meeting where they will update us on progress,” said the PS.
The team will audit the system and list all processes that face challenges when transacting business on the portal.
The LSK President said they were pleased by the proposal of working together to resolve the challenges.
At the same time, the PS said the issue of missing files had been addressed and records have been reorganized.
The Ardhisasa system is an online platform that allows Citizens, stakeholders and interested parties to interact with land information held and processes undertaken by Government.
