ELDORET, Kenya, Apr 1 – Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Kipchumba Sudi has asked Azimio leader Raila Odinga to groom his successor instead of engaging in unnecessary protests against the Kenya kwanza government.
The MP said Raila Odinga has been complaining of stolen presidential votes since 1992 general election leading to many Kenyans losing lives and property due to demonstrations that he resorts to for his own selfish benefit.
“Many people have suffered loss of life and property since the current demonstrations started,” said Sudi during a press briefing at his Kapseret home on Saturday.
The MP ruled out the possibility of a handshake between President William Ruto and Raila Odinga no matter how long the protests will take.
“We will not yield to threats and intimidation just because the Azimio leader wants a handshake the same way he bulldozed Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017 and the late Presidents Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Arap Moi,” Sudi said.
Sudi also took issue with former President Uhuru Kenyatta whom he claimed was financing the demonstrations to sabotage President William Ruto’s government to make it look like a failure.
“The former President and Azimio group have realized that the plans President Ruto is putting in place will turn around the country’s economy and bring the cost of living down that is why they have resorted to mass action after remaining silent for seven months after their defeat,” said Sudi.
He added, “They know that once the Kenya kwanza turns around the fledgling economy and brings down the cost of living, they will be taken to political oblivion. Despite the protest the current President is committed to improving the standards of living for all Kenyans and the Azimio team should know that we will still defeat them in 2027 and even 2032,”.
The MP also urged the clergy who are calling for dialogue between President Ruto and Odinga to be honest and tell Azimio the truth that they lost the elections.
“The only dialogue the Kenya kwanza government will hold with Raila Odinga is on his retirement from politics and the creation of the leader of the opposition post, not a handshake,” Sudi stressed.
Sudi said the cost of living will not come down because of protests, but sound government plans and people working hard to produce enough food.
“You are busy hurling stones and carrying twigs in Nairobi complaining of high food prices while people in other parts of Kenya are busy in their farms, we are not your slaves, if you have nothing to do in Nairobi go back home and work on the farm to produce your food,” he urged.
