KISII, Kenya, Mar 24 – Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now claims that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi called him, seeking assistance after he was detained over claims police broke into his Karen home last month.
Speaking in Kisii, Gachagua claimed that the former CS called him after he was ignored by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition Chief Raila Odinga.
“It is wrong that the handshake brothers misused Matiangi …. and when he claimed that certain people went to his house, he called those people and they were not picking his phone calls,” he quipped.
“I am the one he called and I had to tell him that what he did when he was in power was wrong and he was misused.”
The Director of Public Prosecutions dropped the charges against Matiangi and his lawyer Danstan Omari over allegations of conspiracy and publication of false information.
The DCI had accused Matiangi and Omari of jointly conspiring to publish in the media that Matiang’i’s home was invaded by a garrison or battalion of unidentified people from the security apparatus on 8th and 9th February, 2023
