President Ruto back to political backyard for National Prayers next Sunday

NAIROBI, Kenya Feb 2 – President William Ruto is expected to return to his political backyard for a national prayer service, months after he won the August 9 general election.

Ever since President Ruto won, he has shied off from touring his political backyard having made only three visits since September 5, when the Supreme Court upheld his victory.

His Deputy Rigathi Gachagua Thursday met with Rift Valley governors ahead of the mega prayer service that will be held on February 12, 2023.

The aftermath of the August 9 election will take centre stage as the leaders are set to offer thanksgiving for a peaceful election and smooth transition.

Details have remained scanty on which of the seven counties in Rift Valley which include Baringo, Bomet, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kericho, Nandi, West Pokot and Uasin Gishu.

The seven counties boosted his chance of victory by collectively giving him 1,602,807 votes.

“This morning, at Harambee House Annex Office, I met Governors from the Rift Valley Region who called on me to brief me ahead of National Prayers for our Nation as the hosts. The prayers will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2023,” Gachagua tweeted.

The mega national prayers will also focus on the challenge grappling the President Ruto’s administration which include drought, fast economy recovery and drug abuse.

“The clergy will also pray for the healing of the nation, from the scourge of cancer, and for peace and security for all communities to live together in harmony,” the DP tweeted.

In attendance included Susan Kihika (Nakuru),Simon Kachapin(West Pokot),Hillary Barchok (Bomet),Erick Mutai (Kericho),Stephen Sang (Nandi),Wisley Rotich (Elgeyo Marakwet) and Jonathan Bii (Uasin Gishu).

President Ruto has painted his leadership to be one deeply entrenched in religion by attending several thanksgiving services in various parts of the country.

Since he took office on September 13, 2022 the Head of State has predominantly graced the prayer meeting in Mt Kenya region as well as the opposition strongholds.
