NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 4 — The Judiciary has denied reports that an impending reorganization at the institution responsible for running law courts and tribunals could result in demotions.
Responding to a report published on the Daily Nation on Friday, the Judiciary termed assertions that hundreds of staff will be demoted as alarming.
“The report is alarming and meant to cause disharmony in the institution,” a statement released Saturday morning read.
The Judiciary however said it had engaged a consultant to review the organization’s structure and a report on the same was completed in November 2018.
The statement went on to state that no staff will be declared redundant during the reorganization which seeks to enhance effectiveness and efficiency.
“The aim of the restructuring process was to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the Judiciary and make it more responsive towards the delivery of justice in the new constitutional dispensation.”
The Judiciary said the Judicial Service Commission had approved three broad interventions to save its staff from demotions.
The JSC-approved plan included; re-designations and appointment of affected staff in grades with matching qualifications, allowing those who do not qualify to hold current positions personal to self and offering them fresh engagements.
The statement noted that the second concession will be extended to staff with a few years to retirement.
Fresh engagements will also be offered in cases where the affected staff do not qualify for re-designation but who have a significant number of years to retirement.
