5 premature babies born to Nakuru woman die

NAKURU, Kenya, Feb 2 – All the five quintuplets born at the Margaret Kenyatta Mother Baby wing of Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital are dead.

Two of them passed on in the morning while the demise of the remaining three was announced to the family at 1:00pm today.

Addressing the media at the hospital, the family said they were saddened by the loss and appealed for psychological and material support for the young couple.

Monica Kīnyanjui, sister to the quintuplets’ father said her brother was too distraught to speak.

She said the family was looking forward to carry the five infants home after the incubation.

Her sentiments were echoes by Leah Nyambura, the infants’ maternal aunt.

The sister to the quintuplets’ mother the deaths of the two-day old infants as a major loss to the family.

Twenty five yeal old Margaret Wairimu prematurely delivered the quintuplets’ on January 31.

They were delivered at 25weeks with very low body weights.
