25-year-old woman gives birth to quintuplets in Nakuru

NAKURU, Kenya, Feb 1 – All the five babies who were born prematurely are admitted at the incubation unit of Margaret Kenyatta Mother and Baby wing at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital.

The hospital Superintendent, Aisha Maina said the woman went to the hospital in pain on January 29.

“The medics realised she had a multiple pregnancy which was at high risk” she said.

She added that she was immediately admitted for observation after which she progressed to labour yesterday.

Maina said the woman had to be rushed to theater for an emergency Caesarian Section to save her and the five babies.

Maina said babies were delivered safely though prematurely.

“The pregnancy was at seven months so the babies were delivered with very low weights of between 500gams and 600grams,” she said.

Maina said the mother and her children would be released once the infants gained safe weight to survive on their own.
