NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 26 – A Venezuelan diplomat has been convicted of the 2012 killing of the country’s Ambassador to Kenya Olga Fonseca.
The then first Secretary at the Venezuelan Embassy Dwight Saga-ray murdered the Latin American nation’s acting ambassador at her official residence in Nairobi.
Three Kenyan nationals who had been charged alongside Saga-ray were also convicted.
The diplomat was tried for the murder, after his diplomatic immunity was waived by Venezuela.
The court found that Saga-ray was heading the mission before the arrival of Fonseca and was angered by her presence since he wanted to continue overseeing the embassy.
