NAIROBI KENYA, Jan 21 –President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin Kung’u Muigai has been appointed the chairperson of the Kenya Cultural Center Council.
In a Gazette Notice dated January 20, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba appointed the retired army captain to serve in the position for a period of two years.
“In exercise of the power conferred by section 3(1) of Kenya Cultural Center Act, the Cabinet Secretary for sports, Culture and the Arts appoints Kungu Mungai (CAPT.) to be a member and chairperson of the Kenya Cultural Center Council for a period of two years with effect from 20th January,” the gazette notes.
In the run-up to the 2022 General Election, Muigai was outspoken about his support for the Kenya Kwanza administration and, in particular, President William Ruto.
Other appointments made by Ruto include Patrick Gichuru as chair of the Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority and Hannah Muriithi as chair of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Stephen Kiptoem, was also appointed as the board chairperson of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) for a period of three years.
