President Ruto contributes Sh5mn to support Catherine Kasavuli’s medical bill

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 8 – President William Ruto has waived celebrated news anchor Catherine Kasavuli’s hospital bill during a fundraiser held Saturday evening to offset her hospital bill ahead of the burial.

President Ruto who sent his message to the fundraiser committee, in the event held at the United Kenya Club, donated Sh5 million in support of Kasavuli’s final journey.

“Our one and only President and Commander in Chief has dispatched one million shillings in support of the programs ahead of the burial of our sister Catherine Kasavuli.”

“Apart from that he has also committed to clear the outstanding medical pending bill in the hospital,” the message read.

Nairobi senator, Edwin Sifuna, assured the family that they would walk the journey together in the final send off of the Veteran Journalist.

“She was a very consummate person, a beautiful face on TV. I loved her smile. To the family, am sorry for the loss and I assure you that we will walk in this journey together,” Sifuna eulogised.

Westland’s member of parliament, Timothy Wanyonyi, celebrated Kasavuli’s life as one who loved her job and one who kept Kenyans glued to  the TV to watch news.

“I want to celebrate her life very well lived. Whichever station she was you would turn that station to listen to her,” the MP noted.

She will be laid to rest on Saturday, January 14, at her home in Zululu, Vihiga County.

Kasavuli passed away on Thursday night aged 60 years at the KNH after battling with cancer.

She had been admitted at the facility since October last year.

Kasavuli’s son Martin recently appealed for help to offset a hospital bill estimated at four million Shillings.

In November, colleagues and friends in the media industry mobilised people to donate blood for urgent transfusion after she was admitted at KNH.

Kasavuli’s employer KBC also appealed for a blood donation as she is admitted to Kenyatta hospital’s Private wing.

Until her demise, Kasavuli was a news anchor at the public broadcaster where she was presenting the Legends Edition that airs every Saturday night on KBC Channel 1.
