NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 30 – Korogocho Ward Representative Absalom Odhiambo Onyango is currenlty detained at Kiambu police station over inciting remarks he made during the Kamukunji Azimio rally last Monday.
The Member of County Assembly (MCA), popularly known as Matach was picked by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) sleuths at the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) offices where he had been summoned over his inciteful remarks.
He was accompanied by his lawyer Apollo Mboya and Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Peter Imwatok at the time of arrest.
“Today the Korogocho MCA Hon. Absalom Odhiambo Onyango honoured summons by NCIC whereupon he was arrested and handed over to the Director of Criminal Investigations Nairobi area for further action,” a statement from NCIC reads.
His arrest follow a viral video captured at the Kamukunji rally where he uttered unprintable words criticising the Kenya Kwanza government amid a stirred up crowd of Azimio supporters.
He was thus summoned by the Rev. Samuel Kobia-led commission which stated that such comments created unnecessary tension that if not well managed could plunge the country into chaos.
“A case in point is the utterances by Korogocho Member of County Assembly Hon. Absalom Odhiambo Onyango at the Azimio La Umoja Alliance rally at the Kamukunji grounds on Monday, January 23 which inter alia invoked ethnic hatred while inciting Kenyans to violence. Therefore, we have summoned Hon. Absalom Odhiambo Onyango to record a statement.” read part of the statement from the NCIC.
