Nairobi, Kenya, January 21- A Kenya Defence Forces officer was on Friday sentenced to five years and eight months in prison by a Court Martial sitting at Lang’ata Barracks after being found guilty of recruitment malpractices.
The Court Martial, comprising Senior Military Officers and presided over by Principal Magistrate of Makadara Law Courts Agnes Wahito, found Major Ibrahim Juma Wasike guilty of two counts.
The first count is committing a civil offense contrary to section 133 (1) (b) of the KDF Act, obtaining by false pretense contrary to section 313 of the penal code.
Major Wasike on this count was convicted of colluding with one Job Lukale Maina alias Joseph Adiedo Mola to obtain 100,000 in cash from Colley Njeru in the false pretense that he was in a position to recruit Kevin Gitonga Munene into the KDF during the February 2021 recruitment exercise.
On the second count, the accused was convicted of colluding with Maina for obtaining from Njeru 60,263 via MPESA in the false pretense that he was in a position to recruit Kevin Gitonga Munene into the KDF during the February 2021 recruitment exercise.
The sentence of two years and 10 months on each count shall run concurrently, with the accused granted 21 days to launch an appeal.
