KISUMU, Kenya Jan 22 – Police in Kisumu are detaining a student and two minors accused of committing a robbery on Saturday night.
Police had responded to a mob justice incident where they rescued an 18-year-old man next to Kisumu Moi stadium who was caught robbing a local resident.
According to a police report, officers who responded to the call established that the suspect, identified as Brian Odongo, alias De Palmer is a student at Michinda High School in Elburgin within Nakuru County.
“He was in the company of four others, who had attacked one victim namely Anthony Okumu aged 21 years,” said the report.
The victim was robbed of a Samsung phone valued at Sh29,000, a head phone and Sh300 cash.
The other robbers are said to have vanished in darkness as members of the public who responded to the cries of the victim managed to corner one suspect.
When officers arrived, they found the victim being given first aid after losing two teeth as a result of being hit in the mouth by the arrested suspect using a fist that had five heavy signet rings.
Upon interrogation, the suspect disclosed he was a member of a four-man gang known as Peddy gang.
“He led the officers to the homes of his accomplices in Nyalenda slums where two other suspects were arrested,” the report states.
The two arrested were aged 17 and 16 years and were found wearing branded t-shirts bearing their aliases.
There was no recovery of the stolen items as police mount a search for the fourth suspect who is at large.
The trio will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
