NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 2 – Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has been shortlisted among the eight candidates eyeing the solicitor general slot.
Havi, who unsuccessfully contested for the Westlands MP seat in the August elections under the UDA party ticket .
In a notice published by the Public Service Commission, the eight will be seeking to replace Ken Ogeto whose has been the solicitor general since 2018.He was during President Uhuru Kenyatta regime.
Ogeto’s term is set to end in March 2023 as the law provides that the solicitor general shall serve for a period of five years with the window for renewal for another term.
Former Jubilee Party deputy executive director MaryKaren Kigen-Sorobit was also listed alongside Ex-Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack John Mose.
George Kithi who unsuccessfully vied for the Kilifi governor seat candidate also made to the list.
Others include; Beatrice Adhiambo Akuno, Paul Lilan, Beatrice Mugeni Meso and Stephen Ochieng Mallowah.
In the notice,the eight candidates are set to be interviewed by the commission’s panel on December 13th and 14th, 2022. Among the 18 applicants who applied for the slot only eight made it to the list.
The applicants were required to holds a law degree from a recognized university. They must also be advocate of the High Court of Kenya or holds qualifications from a common law jurisdiction.
“Following the conclusion of the exercise…shortlisted candidates will be interviewed at the Public Service Commission, Commission House, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi on the date and time indicated. Candidates should be at the venue at least fifteen (15) minutes before the starting time,” read the notice.
The Solicitor General assists the Attorney-General in the performance of his duties and is also responsible for the discipline of the State Counsel and other members of staff in the Office.
