NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 29 – National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has directed the departmental committee on Finance and National Planning to conduct approval hearings of nominees to the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) by December 6.

In a communication during the plenary sitting Tuesday, Wetangula indicated that the committee should “expeditiously undertake the approval hearings and report back to the House,” before the constitutional deadline.

“With regard to the nominees from the political parties in the National Assembly under Article 215(2)(b) of the Constitution, I have received the names of Benedict Muasya Mutiso  and Wilfred Koitamet Olekina Nchoshoi, having beennominated bythe Majority Party and Minority Party, respectively,” the communication stated.

“With regard to Nominees under Article 215(2)(c) of the Constitution, the leadership of political parties represented in the Senate nominated Jonas Misto Vincent Kuko, Dr. Isabel Nyambura Waiyaki and Hadija Nganyi Juma, the three were nominated by the Majority Party, Dr. George Jalang’o Midiwo and Hon. Fatuma Gedi Ali, CBS. The two were nominated by the Minority Party.”

The nominees were selected from a pool of 139 applicants who expressed interest in forming part of the agency that is tasked with recommending the basis for equitable sharing of revenues raised nationally between the national and the county governments.

If approved, the new team will take over after the term of members serving in the commission ends on the 31st of December.
