DP Gachagua buys shirt for Sh50,000 from Mtumba trader during Hustlers Fund launch

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 30 – Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday bought a shirt for Sh50,000 from a mtumba trader, during the launch of Hustlers Fund at the new Green Park termini.

Comedian Chipukeezy had invited small scale traders including smokie and sausage vendors, and mtumba traders at the podium to talk about their challenges doing business and how the Hustlers Fund will help them.

During a light moment Chipukeezy selected one of the mtumba shirts and called DP Rigathi to the podium to fit, the trader said he would sell the shirt for Sh500.

“I normally sell this shirt for Sh1,000 but since Riggy G is my friend I will sell him at Sh500 only,” the mtumba trader said.

In a quick rejoinder DP Gahagua however said he would buy it at Sh50,000 and handed him the cash amid cheers from the crowd.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa who was also called to the podium to buy a smokie, paid sh 200 instead of Sh50.
