NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 29 – Empowerment of the boy child, widows, orphans, and people living with disabilities are key priority areas, Deputy President’s Spouse Pastor Dorcas Gachagua intends to focus on in the next five years.
Pastor Dorcas stated that the boychild programme, seeks to help boys and youth out of drug and substance abuse, alcoholism, and mental health, among other challenges.
The DP’s Spouse says she hopes to reinvigorate the 2.4 million youth who are grouped as economically inactive while about 1.2 million others are seeking jobs.
These focus areas under the DP’s spouse are being put into a framework, which will be launched in early 2023.
Speaking during the re-dedication of the National Prayer Altar at the Deputy President’s Official Residence, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said that more than 8 million boys and youths between 10 and 34 years cannot be left behind by the government.
“I am encouraged that my spouse has identified the boychild as her focus area. The boychild in our country is endangered and we must act so we do not lose a generation, her partnership with the church will make the work much easier so I ask our church leaders to embrace that project and see what interventions can be made for the boychild,” Gachagua said.
During the meeting, Gachagua said that President William Ruto’s government will continue engaging everyone toward inclusive development.
He added that President Ruto will start implementing the pre-election Memorandum of Understanding between the Kenya Kwanza administration and religious leaders from January 2023. That is after the Constitution of the government, including the assumption to office of the Principal Secretaries.
“This government was put in place by prayers; it must be sustained by prayers. We want you to walk with us,” she said.
