NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 9 – Voting has ended in various polling stations with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) assuring that those on the queue will still be allowed to cast their ballot.
At the Moi Avenue Primary School polling station, all queues have been deserted after all queues have cleared and the place secured.
At the station, election observer Jakaya Kikwete and other observers witnessed the sealing of the ballot boxes.
Kikwete said the whole voting process was smooth across all the polling stations he went through.
At Kileleshwa Primary, by 5 pm people were still in the queue.
The Presiding Officer at the station Sylvia Amoni said everybody who was lining up would be allowed to vote.
“We close at different times because we opened at different times, some stations opened at 6 am while others opened at 8 am, the time a station opens determines the time it closes,” she said.
Kisii Municipal polling station closed at 5 pm.
The Presiding Officer at the station Momanyi Onchiri said the voting process was smooth.
In Kisumu, counting is underway in a number of polling stations after the exercise ended at 5 pm.
By 5pm, there were very few people in the line and they were allowed to vote.
IEBC had said that by 4pm, 12 million voters had cast their votes.
