Man dies while scooping fuel from an underground fuel tank in Masinga

MASINGA, Kenya Sep 29 – A body of a man has been found in an underground tank at a newly built fuel station at Kakuku Market in Masinga.

Masinga Police Commander Rashid Ali said an investigation has been launched to establish circumstances of the man’s death.

He said the man was holding a 20-litre jerrycan, a jar and a torch suggesting he may have been scooping fuel.

“This man could have been scooping fuel inside the tank. We suspect he fell and suffocated inside the tank,” Ali said.

The owner of the petrol station Patricia Ndunge said they realised something was a miss in the morning when they found the lid to the tank open.

“We discovered this morning that the underground tank was open and when my people tried to check they saw a body of a man inside”, she said.

The body was taken away to the mortuary as investigations was intensified.
