NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 20 – Kiambu Governor James Nyoro has nominated Joyce Ngugi, who vied the Gatundu South parliamentary seat in the last elections, to be his deputy.

Ngugi is the widow of former area legislator, Joseph Ngugi.

In 2017, she was the main opponent for MP Moses Kuria but pulled out of the race at the last minute. She was vying as an independent candidate.

Nyoro assumed the County leadership following the successful impeachment of former Governor Ferdinard Waititu, who is battling a multi-million shillings corruption case in court.

The Governor also made some changes in his Cabinet as he seeks to stamp his authority in the politically-charged county.

When he was sworn in, Nyoro promised to nominate a woman as his Deputy.

“I want to empower women in line with the Building Bridges Initiative recommendation,” the Governor said.

Ngugi is now set to undergo vetting before she can assume office, if her nomination is approved by the Members of County Assembly.
