Wrangles at Kisii PAG over autonomy and misappropriated funds

Worshipers supportive of the besieged cleric were locked out from accessing the church/C

KISII, Kenya, Jan 4 – Kisii town PAG Church is in a conflict after a group of Christians temporarily disrupted Sunday Services protesting against the Senior Pastor; they locked the gate, church doors and the Senior Pastors office.

The group led by Elder Benard Nyamanya is accusing the church’s senior Pastor Lawrence Morara of overstepping his mandate and changing the doctrines of the Church.

Addressing the media after the scuffle the group said the pastor has been running the church like his personal property and using the church’s funds and disregarding the input of the church members.

“The Pastor and the current church leadership have taken the advantage of Christians to enrich themselves” said Nyamanya.

For an hour, worshipers supportive of the besieged cleric were locked out from accessing the sanctuary till a group of hired bodabodas forcefully removed the locked gate.

Wyclife Monyenyi a member of the protesting group also said that they will not relent until the action is taken from the Church’s headquarters, “Ideally a pastor is allowed to serve in one location for four years maximum.”

They also cited that there is lack of elections for the church members to pick new church officials since Morara took over office.

They further accused the pastor of failing to account millions of shillings the members have fund-raised for various projects among them the construction of a church plaza. The members raised more than Sh500,000 to set up a church plaza in Kisii town but nothing has been done.

“Members of the church are not involved in the church affairs and this has been left to the technical committee which is not answerable to the congregation,” the group fumed.

“The problem emerged at the church late last year when Senior Pastor Morara announced that he wanted the church to be autonomous which would allow him to remain in leader at the church for good,” explained Nyamanya.

An attempt to get a comment from Morara was unsuccessful, “The pastor will not talk to you, just leave,” said a member allied to the beleaguered Pastor.
