NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 10 – A censure motion against Kiambu Deputy Governor James Nyoro has been withdrawn following intervention by Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju.

The Governor Ferdinand Waititu-allied group led by Witeithie Ward County Assembly Member Macharia Taki wrote to the Assembly Speaker on Tuesday confirming the withdrawal of the Nyoro censure motion hours before its scheduled debate in the plenary Tuesday afternoon.

The conditional withdrawal was pegged on the withdrawal of a similar motion against Waititu by the pro-Nyoro brigade, “as agreed in a meeting chaired by Tuju on Monday,” Taki indicated.

“The Jubilee Party requested the Members of County Assembly to seek reconciliation as a way of resolving the issue pending removal of Governor as well as Deputy Governor,” Taki stated.

“The Party reached out to the sponsors of the two motions and urged them to withdraw,” he added.

Taki told Capital FM News on Tuesday, the impeachment motion against Waititu sponsored by the mainly Nyoro-allied legislators had been postponed indefinitely to allow room for consultations.

He said a meeting attended by 45 MCAs including Governor Waititu had agreed to have the two motions withdrawn for the sake of harmony.

Nyoro, according to Taki, did not attend the meeting and sent an apology saying he was engaged in a cabinet meeting with the County Executive Committee Members.

Waititu and Nyoro have been on a collision path since the former was barred from accessing his office after he was charged in a graft case, the latter declaring himself the Acting county chief as a result.
