NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 20 – Deputy President William Ruto has vowed to rally behind President Uhuru Kenyatta’s quest for national unity regardless of the 2022 presidential election outcome.
Speaking in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu County, where he met leaders from Central Kenya on Thursday, Ruto assured that he is committed to unite the country, a commitment he said the governing Jubilee Party will not renege.
“I do not want people to fight because of me or any other political leader. God already knows who the next president will be. I want to assure you that I am committed to ensuring that this country does not go to the wrong direction,” he said
“So, whether I win the presidential seat or not all I want for this country is peace.”
The DP further reiterated that cohesion required sustained efforts, urging the public to work on ensuring good relations with their neighbors regardless of tribe, religion and political persuasion.
“Furthering unity is the core responsibility of all leaders because if we are united, we can focus on a common agenda and a shared purpose. Leadership is about nurturing togetherness not division,” the DP said.

“Real unity is interfaith, inter-community and across regions. Cohesion is not a one-off event; we have to keep doing the work and we have to stay engaged because it is our responsibility,” he added.

He pointed out that his wish is to see the country fully united as that was the main reason why he formed an alliance with President Kenyatta.
Ruto reiterated that the alliance was not premised on ascension to the presidency but the peace and stability of Kenya.
