NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 21 – Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has issued a 21-day notice to retail stations in Moyale to comply with energy regulations after an audit revealed noncompliance.
An operation conducted by EPRA and Marsabit County Security Teams revealed that the stations were constructed without construction permits as required under Section 86 of the Petroleum Act 2019 and they do not have valid licenses for retail of petroleum products from EPRA as required under Section 74 of the Act
“The Authority has therefore given the station owners a 21-day notice to obtain relevant licenses and directed that the stations comply with the energy regulations, standards and the relevant provisions of the Petroleum Act 2019. The Authority also urges members of the public to continue reporting such malpractices to the Authority for necessary action as provided for in the regulation,” EPRA stated.
The operation which was carried out from December 10 to 14 further showed the stations were constructed without due regard and compliance with the Kenya Standards and Environment Health and Safety requirements.
The petroleum products at the retail stations however met the specifications as outlined in relevant Kenya standards for petroleum products, EPRA stated.
There are five petroleum retail stations operating in Moyale town.
