Capital FM awards outstanding staff with fully paid holiday in Mombasa

NAIROBI, Kenya Dec 21 – Capital FM, Kenya’s premier radio station that is unrivalled in The Best Mix of Music and news, held its end-year staff party on Friday, awarding outstanding staff from all departments with an all-expenses-paid holiday in Mombasa.

More than 20 employees, including five from the News Department, were also awarded with certificates of excellence for outstanding performance in 2019.

Outstanding staff at the company, considered one of the most profitable and stable FM station in the country, got return flight tickets, and three nights for two at the Pride Inn Paradise in Mombasa to enjoy their holiday.

“We must reward excellence,” said Dr Chris Kirubi, Capital Group Chairman, “I am proud of all of you for the good work you have done for the station.”

Alex Isaboke was recognised as the most outstanding and dedicated Sports Editor for ensuring the station is ahead on local and international sports news while News Reader and Reporter Muthoni Waweru was awarded for her innovation, having started the health segment Capital Health.

Crime Reporter Joseph Muraya was awarded for outstanding work, having published the highest number of features this year.

Moses Muoki, who started off as a Cameraman when he joined the station, was recognised for his transition to a News Reporter, always ready to tackle any challenge.

Davis Ayega was feted as the Best News Reader and all-round-journalist for perfecting news reading and reporting roles.

They received the awards from Group Editorial Director Bernard Momanyi who lauded them for outstanding performance.

“We are awarding you because you have done extremely well throughout the year,” he said, “we must recognise hard work and excellent performance to inspire others.”

Momanyi urged all staff to always remain professional and play their individual role in ensuring the station remains on the competitive edge.

“The industry is facing turbulent times, we must all work hard and become innovative and diversify our revenue streams by maximising the digital and events departments to be able to survive,” he said at the party held at Moran Lounge in Nairobi.

Apart from Capital FM radio, the station is known for the 411 Breaking News and this online platform that is rated highly in the country.

“This is a brand which we must protect by ensuring we remain professional in serving our target audience with authentic news and information,” said Momanyi.

Group Commercial Director Farida Idris said it was a tough year, “but we managed to be where we are today because of hard work and teamwork.”

She awarded Chris Muchai as the top Sales Representative of the year and Brian Kipkogey as the Most Improved and dedicated employee of the year.

“I am very proud of you because you always met your targets and even exceeded them, let us maintain teamwork,” she said, and urged the rest of the team members to emulate them.

In the IT department, James Mugo was named the Overall MVP of the Year while Wilson Akello was named the Most Efficient Employee of the year by department head and Director Duncan Kikata.

In the Digital Department, Ivy Mang’eli and Scarlet Murugi scooped the Top Editor awards for the Sauce lifestyle segment while Abraham Mburu was named MVP of the year in the department.

“These are the people who have contributed to the most numbers on our website,” said David Muba, Digital Director, “We are very proud of them.”

Programs Director Danny Munyi awarded Martin Kariuki the team player of the year, with Joe Miano named MVP of the year. Danny was also confirmed as the Group Programs Director.

Neville and Mandi’s Hits was recognised as the most improved radio show while Lassie Atrash emerged as the department’s MVP of the Year.

The team player of the year award went to Francis Githinji of the Administration Department, while Esther Naisoi was named Most Supportive and Team Player of the Year.

In the Finance department, Evelyne Mumbi was named MVP of the Year while Peter Karanja emerged as the Team Player of the Year.

“Their efficiency and dedication is just amazing,” said Grace Nyambura, Finance and acting Human Resource Director.

Eugene Mamai was declared the MVP Creative.
