NAKURU, Kenya, Nov 30 – Kenya Reinsurance Corporation has today conducted its final 2019 Niko Fiti Na Kenya Re distribution of the year in Nakuru County.

The CSR initiative has impacted the lives of over 1500 persons living with disability in 4 counties namely Machakos, Kitui, Baringo & Nakuru.

The beneficiaries across the 4 counties received devices such as special seats, polio boots, crutches, tricycles, wheel chairs, white canes and other assorted orthopedic items bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 6800 since inception in 2011.

Through the Corporations technical partner the Association of Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK), the Corporation was able to identify those in need within the four counties and their environs and custom make devices that will appropriately help the beneficiaries based on the different disability.

Speaking on behalf of the Kenya Re MD, Kenya Re Ag. Corporate Affairs Manager Sylvia Karimi urged the beneficiaries to champion the Niko Fiti Initiative. “To the beneficiaries present here today.

“I urge you to be the Niko Fiti champions as you return to your homes. We have heard stories of many other persons living with disability being locked in their homes and as such, I urge you all to be our brand ambassadors and champion the message of ability beyond disability especially as we draw closer to world disability day which will be on the 3rd of December 2019,” said Karimi.

“Encourage more people to come and register with APDK so they can all be put on the national database and be able to receive the appropriate help from initiatives such as Niko Fiti,” she added.

The Corporation has also brought Nation Media Group and Royal Media Services on board as their official media partners.

The Niko Fiti programme is Kenya Re’s flagship CSR project that aims to uplift and empower those living with disability in order to better themselves to contribute to the economic and social well-being of not only their families but the nation as a whole.
