NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 10 – Eight people died, Sunday afternoon after a lorry rammed into the matatu they were travelling in along the Eastern By-Pass in Nairobi. The eight were in the 14-seater matatu.
A survivor of the accident told Capital NewsBeat that the lorry rammed into the Nissan matatu killing the eight on spot. “A traffic police officer was stopping the lorry and in the process it lost control and rammed into the Nissan matatu” she said.
Several other passengers were rescued and rushed to different hospitals in Nairobi with injuries.
It is said that the Nissan matatu was headed to Kibwezi.
Another accident in the early hours of Saturday morning claimed one life leaving 32 others nursing various injuries after the bus they were travelling in was involved in an accident on the Nairobi – Mombasa highway.
Makueni County Police Commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan said the accident occurred when the Nairobi bound bus attempted to overtake a string vehicles and rammed into the oncoming trailer.
The injured passengers were taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for treatment.
