NAIROBI, Kenya Oct 16 – President Uhuru Kenyatta was set to preside over the launch of the second phase of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from extending from Nairobi to Mai Mahiu from Mombasa.
State House said the president will also commission the JKIA-Westlands Expressway and Groundbreaking for Naivasha Inland Container Depot (ICD).
“The President will make stopovers to commission and address wananchi (the public) at SGR Stations along the new railway line in Ongata Rongai, Ngong, Kimuka (Commission Kimuka Water Project), Mai Mahiu and Suswa,” said Kanze Dena, a Spokeswoman for State House.
The main function will be held in Mai Mahiu to be attended by various dignitaries, among them Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Wu Peng.
Kenya Railways officials said passenger train services from Nairobi to Mai Mahiu were set to kick off on Thursday, enabling passengers to connect from Nairobi, Mombasa, Naivasha through to Mai Mahiu.
