NAIROBI, Kenya Oct 18 – President Uhuru Kenyatta has disbanded the Board of Kenya Ferry Services, following commuter safety concerns occasioned by the death of a daughter and her mother whose vehicle plunged into the Indian Ocean.
In a Gazette notice, President Kenyatta announced he had revoked the appointments of Board chairman Dan Mwazo and members Daula Omar, Naima Amir, Philip Ndolo and Rosina Mruttu.
This comes after the September 29 Likoni Ferry tragedy, in which a mother and her four-year-old daughter died, after their car slipped off the MV Harambee ferry and sunk in the Indian Ocean.
Their bodies were retrieved last Friday, two weeks after the incident.
