NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 13 – Kenya Power has issued a stern warning to unlicensed communication operators stringing fiber-optic cables on power distribution poles, giving them 14 days to remove the installations.

In a statement published on local dailies on Sunday, the utility company says the individuals are illegally offering numerous services in many organizations and homes countrywide.

“These people are illegally placing their cables onto Kenya Power poles to offer internet, communication, television, and other services to various households and businesses countrywide,” the statement reads.

The utility firm warned unsanctioned stringing could endanger lives of individuals in households.

“The illegal installations have in some instances caused accidents along roads and in private homes endangering public safety and life,” Kenya Power said.

The company has vowed to punish anyone contravening the directive by illegally infringing on Kenya Power infrastructure or any individual found masquerading as one of its licensees.

“Failure to bring these cables down Kenya Power will be at liberty to take any action against such operators as may be deemed necessary including but not limited to bringing down the illegal networks and instituting legal action,” it warned.

Owners and operators of such installations will also bear the responsibility for any consequential damages arising out of their actions, Kenya Power added.
