NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 23 – Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi on Wednesday presided over the swearing in of two new members of the Nairobi County Assembly Service Board.
Elachi inaugurated to the Board Jubilee Party’s Mark Ndung’u (MCA Maringo Hamza) and ODM’s Maurice Gari of Nairobi West ward.
The two replace Majority and Minority leaders Abdi Guyo and Elias Otieno respectively.
The Board also comprises of a county resident appointed by the county assembly from among persons who have knowledge and experience in public affairs.
Elachi who chairs the board appointed Ndung’u to be the Vice Chairperson.
Abdi Guyo who had been embroiled in an ugly fight with Elachi regarding her return to the Assembly was conspicuously missing during the swearing in ceremony.
Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju while making the announcement on the changes on its representative to Nairobi County Assembly Service Board pointed out that the party is still deliberating on further changes to be made on the assembly in light of the unfolding leadership row.
The reshuffle was addressed to Elachi and copied to Guyo, Majority Whip Chege Mwaura and Ndung’u.
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, on the other hand, announced the nomination of Gari who will be replacing the Minority Leader and Kileleshwa MCA Elias Otieno who has been a member of the board from the ODM party.
Gari is said to be a staunch Elachi supporter.
The Board is among other functions mandated to exercise budgetary control over the County Assembly Service; determine the terms and conditions of service of Assembly staff and do such other things as may be necessary for the well-being of the members and staff of the county assembly.
