NAIROBI, Kenya Oct 23 – The appointment of former Othaya MP Mary Wambui as chairperson of the National Employment Authority has been suspended.
Employment and Labour Relations Judge Hellen Wasilwa stopped the implementation of a Gazette notice by President Uhuru Kenyatta Wednesday following an application by the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association (KYPA)
The petitioners argue that Wambui is not qualified under the law, policy and best practice to be the chairperson of the National Employment Authority.
Justice Wasilwa heard that the former lawmaker does not meet the threshold of having at least seven years’ experience in human resource management or its equivalent.
“Her appointment will disfranchise the Kenyan taxpayer given the very strategic nature of the position of NEC,” they state.
The contested notice, KYPA said, lacks notice in a country that prides itself in having many Kenyans who are qualified for the position of National Employment Authority.
