Security has been heightened in the coastal city in recent weeks ahead of the October 20 national Mashujaa Day celebration to be held at the Mama Ngina Waterfront.
The military has been conducting rehearsals for what government officials have said will be an elaborate parade during the annual fete which celebrates independence heroes who fought for the nation’s independence.
“Our uniformed forces have intensified rehearsals for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations at the Mama Ngina Waterfront Park, Mombasa. This will be the first time in our history that the Kenya Navy will give the National Salute to the President,” Interior and Citizen Services Principal Secretary remarked when he inspected the facility on Monday.
Mombasa County will be joining four counties that have so far hosted national celebrations traditionally held in the capital, Nairobi.
