NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 24 – The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has assured that Uhuru Park will not be affected by the construction of the Nairobi Expressway from Mlolongo to James Gichuru road.
KeNHA on Thursday said twenty-three meters hived off the recreational park are part of a road reserve for the construction of Uhuru Highway.
The sentiments follow concerns by Kenyans that part of Uhuru Park has been taken to facilitate the project.
Once constructed, the Nairobi expressway is expected to reduce congestion in the Nairobi Central Business district and improve economic activity.
The project is estimated to cost Sh59.9 billion which will be financed by public private partnership.
The expressway will be tolled at a cost of Sh11.24 per km, while the entire journey from Mlolongo to James Gichuru will cost a motorist in a saloon car Sh300.

The proposed development is mainly aimed at de-congesting the traffic flow in Nairobi as well as improving end-user experience and enhancing economic productivity for the City of Nairobi and the country in general.
Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna on Thursday said the government has set aside Sh8 billion to go towards compensating the affected private landowners.
Oguna acknowledged that all private landowners have agreed to offer land potions for the project.
The Government has made deliberate efforts to minimise land acquisition for the project. The preliminary land-take is approximately 35 acres, including 60 percent of public land and 40 percent of private property. #NairobiExpressWay #NaiExpress #TrafficAlert

He stated the project will play an instrumental role in the attainment of Vision 2030, Kenya’s development blueprint towards an industrialized middle-income economy.
“This will make the country a globally competitive and prosperous Nation where citizens enjoy high quality living standards,” he said.
