NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 18 – Two nurses at Dandora Health Centre have been suspended after they allegedly dismissed an expectant mother for lack of Sh20 registration fee. The woman in labour delivered just outside the health facility following the incident.

A statement from the Office of the Governor stated that maternity services are free in all county facilities and that no one is supposed to pay any charges.

“No one is supposed to be subjected to inhuman delivery experiences in or outside our health facilities,” Mike Sonko’s office stated.

Nairobi County Health Executive Mohammed Dagane also dispatched a warning to all health practitioners working in county health facilities saying any form of negligence will be dealt with decisively.

The Governor has also vowed to terminate contracts of any health practitioner who will be found to have disregarded their professional code of conduct while on duty.

“I don’t think that they are trained to let people suffer or just deliberately be negligent. If anyone is found to have flouted their code of conduct then we will to terminate their contract,” Sonko said.

In August this year another video of a woman giving birth on the floor at Mama Lucy Hospital while nurses were having tea went viral prompting widespread condemnation.
