NYERI, Kenya, Sep 15 – Three children were on Saturday night burnt beyond recognition after an inferno razed to the ground a temporary house they were sleeping in at Kiambogo village in Kieni, Nyeri County.

Kieni West OCPD Ahmed Ali Sunday said the three minors aged 7 years, 3 years and 7 months, and 3 years were burnt when fire broke out at around 4am.

Ali said the cause of the fire could not be established, adding that efforts by the neighbours to put out the fire were futile.

“It’s very unfortunate we lost three minors on Saturday night after they were burnt beyond recognition. We have not established the cause of the fire, but police have launched investigations,” Ali said

Preliminary reports indicate that the three children were sleeping in a three-bedroom house unaccompanied while their mother was sleeping in a different house.

Ali termed the incident as unfortunate, urging parents to ensure their children are not left alone at home especially at night.

According to the neighbours nothing was salvaged as the efforts to put off the fire were futile.

Their bodies of the minors were taken to Nyeri Referral Hospital Mortuary.
