Ex-KRA DG Njiraini among 11 shortlisted for vacant NLC chairperson post

NAIROBI, Kenya, July 23 – Former Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Director General John Njiraini and former Nyeri Town MP Esther Murugi are among eleven candidates shortlisted for the position of chairperson of the National Land Commission (NLC).

Others shortlisted according to the panel constituted to oversee the recruitment include lawyer, Gershom Otachi, lands expert Mwenda Makathimo and former Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Chairperson Naomi Wagereka.

Also included in the shortlist are Robert Kipkosgei Kilimo, Patrick Silili Adolwa, Humphrey Njuguna, Paul Wambua, Galgalo Ali and Hussein Farah.

The Selection Panel’s Chairperson Priscilla Nyokabi stated that interviews for those shortlisted are set to commence on Monday next week.

“The selection panel would like to confirm that the shortlisted candidates will be interviewed at the Public Service Commission, off Harambee Avenue Nairobi on the date and time indicated above. The candidates should be at the venue at least thirty minutes before the starting time,” she stated.

Shortlisted candidates have been urged to carry a copy of their IDs, academic and professional certificates, as well as clearance from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), KRA, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The interviews for 50 candidates shortlisted for the position of Member of the Commission will begin the following day on Tuesday and go on until Thursday.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) received 117 applicants for the position of Chairperson and 940 for the eight commissioner slots.

The positions fell vacant after the terms of the previous Chairperson Muhammad Swazuri and other Commissioners expired.
